My Family
My Family
Ofcourse being a bug automatically means that I have a huge extended family. I mean enormous, giant, sprawling! But most of my time is not spent with my bug family, rather it’s spent with my work family. I realized that I haven’t mentioned them at all! Well, today is the day I am going to introduce you.
SmartKnitKIDS is a part of the Knit-Rite family. Knit-Rite has been manufacturing medical textiles for over 85 years. Everything that Knit-Rite makes helps people and it’s all made in the USA. It’s a family owned business and the family environment is incredible! It really does feel like my bug family (except I’m the only bug). Knit-Rite’s roots were in the Orthotic and Prosthetic industry, but have branched out to include consumer brands such as Therafirm, SmartKnit, and SmartKnitKIDS. Everyone here is honored and humbled by the products we produce.
SmartKnitKIDS is proud to occupy a corner of Knit-Rite!

Our Trip to the 2010 Boom Boom Room
We just fly in from the 5th Annual Boom Boom Room Pre-Golden Globes party (and boy, are our arms tired! HA!). An all I can say is wow! Two jammed packed days of celebrities loving our products! I can hardly believe it.
The event took place on January 15th through the 16th. We set up our booth the day before. Check out how fabulous it looked here. (It was grueling work for an ant my size, but I diverge. And, yes, SmartKnitKIDS and Preggers are both a part of Knit-Rite, Inc. If you’re Preggers, check out us out. We’re giving away free samples if you take our quick survey!) Between the hours of 11 am and 6pm celebrities and media stopped by our table to chat, to check out SmartKnitKIDS Seamless Socks, and become our BFF for life (ok, probably not the latter, but a bug can dream, right?).
The response was overwhelming. Everyone seemed to love the idea of socks without a seam and socks that fit to the foot and actually stay on. We gave away samples to celebrities such as Kim Porter and the Combs twins, Jodi Sweetin, Joey Lawrence, Mike Sucsey (winner of a Golden Globe for Grey Gardens), Constance Marie, Lou Diamond Phillips, Larry Birkhead and Danielynn, and many more. Check out some of our great pictures on Facebook. The complete list of celebs that we met is below.
SmartKnitKIDS has already been mentioned on the Huffington Post! Keep your eyes peeled for more articles about us!
Needless to say we had an amazing time! We want to thank everyone from the Boom Boom Room for a wonderful event!

Snow, Snow and More Snow

Meet our new friend Snuffle. With all the snow we have been getting recently, we thought it fitting to add a new member to the SmartKnitKIDS family. He may be made of snow, but he has a heart of gold. (It glows) To keep warm he warms SmartKnitKIDS Socks at night. Snuffle hates seams and frostbite can be just as painful to a snowman as it can be for an ant.

KC Walk Now For Autism

What a great event! We had a booth at the KC Autism walk this past Saturday to help Sock it to Autism! So many people were there for such a great cause. It was wonderful! The weather didn’t exactly cooperate, temperature was in the 30’s. I almost froze my antennae off! Even though it was a bit chilly, there was still a great turn out. We got to share our SmartKnitKIDS Seamless Socks and pass out all sorts of goodies to kids and parents. We had a super time. I want to thank everyone who stopped by our booth to check out our socks. I hope everyone loves the samples they got! Thanks again to everyone!

I'm Ready to Rock and Roll!
I know it has been awhile since my last post, but I’m back and ready to write. My little bug fingers are itching to type. The last few weeks have been a whirl wind. Summer is winding down and many of my nieces and nephew are leaving the mound for the first time. They are so excited about striking out on their own. It can be a scary world out there and I hope they will be smart and safe. (they need to avoid fly paper, and shoes) Some of my other nieces started school this year and are so excited! They’ll be learning many exciting things like how to steal picnic food and how to be a good bug. It’s all very exciting!
There are also lots of exciting things happened at SmartKnitKIDS. We are starting to work on adult socks that are similar to the kid’s socks. They will be made out of the same material and they won’t have a heal! I’ll keep you posted on its progress, promise! We’re also starting to get ready to the SPD conference and the Kansas City Autism Walk. We’re very busy bugs.
I’ve got to jet, but I’ll be in touch! Can’t wait to share more of the exciting things that are happening at SmartKnitKIDS.

What Bugs Me
Since I’m a bug, everyone always asks me, “What bugs you?” The obvious is sock seams, but I’m a deeper bug than that. Itchy sweaters bother me, mean people, and most of all cauliflower. No matter how many times I try it, I hate it. (No offense to all the cauliflower lovers out there). Itchy sweaters are also the worst. I have sensory issues so sweaters that feel like I am in a ball of scratchy wool are not my favorite. Mean people are also not at the top of my list. I think everyone needs to be treated with respect regardless of any condition. That’s what bugs me. It might not be what you expected, but my mom raised me to be an honest bug.

Autism Research
My employer, SmartKnitKIDS, believes in Autism research. As many of you know, sensory issues can be associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Our socks have been great in the Autism Community. Since they are seamless, there is nothing to irate the toes. Our form-fitting design means the socks gently “hug” the foot. The closeness and the pressure that the socks provide are often soothing to a child.
This morning I came across an Autism research group call EARLI. They are studying how environmental factors and genetic susceptibility are related by studying families with Autistic child who plan to have another baby. The more information we have the better. Knowledge is power, right? If you’re interested, please take a look at their site. http://www.earlistudy.org/

Things Moms Like

I love socks. I would live in a big, comfy sock if I could. Better yet, a city made of socks. (It would be so soft. No more scrapped knees when I fall) That’s why I like SmartKnitKIDS socks so much; they’re so comfy and they don’t bother my toes. I know many of you may not believe me when I enthusiastically go on about SmartKnitKIDS socks. I wanted to share a great review of the socks written by Things Moms Like. It’s great website that reviews products, sponsors giveaways, and writes about life. Check out their wonderful review of SmartKnitKIDS Seamless Socks for kids who hate sock seams.

Why are You Bothered by Sock Seams?
Thursday, July 23, 2009
AOTA
Since our blog is so new and I didn’t have a chance to share our experience at AOTA last April, I wanted to do so now. AOTA stands for American Occupational Therapy Association. They have a conference every year and we attended this year. It was very cool. I got to meet and mingle with all the wonderful OT’s. (I was the life of the party) Werecieved some great feedback too. They particularly liked the seamless toe and lack of a heel. The seamless toe doesn’t bother kids with sensory issues and a sock without a heel is easy for any child to slip on. I just love hearing about how SmartKnitKIDS help. It makes me proud to be their front bug.

Above is me in our AOTA booth. I was looking particularly handsome that day. It really was great having the chance to talk to everyone and be at AOTA.
If you’re an OT and would like information about SmartKnitKIDS for your patients, please contact me! I’ll be happy to send a professional resource kit out to you. Please visit us at http://www.smartknitkids.com/professional_resources.html to request a kit today!
